Long time ago (12th century) Mali Lošinj was the town of cattle breeders and farmers which then become the town of captains and ship architects and at the end of the 19th century experienced its  (culmination) climax.

Sailing ships replaced Steam ones, ship building decreased so the town started to use its natural beauties and extraordinary climate.

Everything started in 1885. when the sun of certain doctor Carlo, after spending three weeks on  island become totally healed. Some Austrian doctors visited Lošinj after that.

Mali Lošinj is these islands center of events. It's a romantic town settled around the south part of a warm cove surrounded with fragrant pine-trees, cypresses, palm-trees and olives. In port, there is marina and shipyard.

The  coast is beautifully indented. There are many coves, promenades and paths. There is also Čikat, a part of the town planted with pine-tree forest.

The planting was started in 1886. by professor Haračić. In the first five years 500 000 plants were planted.

There's a camp in the wood, hotels "Helios", "Bellevue" and "Alhambra", and beaches and many villas. The first that was built in Čikat was Aldema, than Karolina (1889.)

In neighboring Sunčana uvala, there are new hotels "Vespera" and "Aurora", and restaurants "Veli Žal" and "Borik".

Hotel "Istra", many restaurants, cafe's, confectioneries and stores at the center , have everything that a guest requires for a conformable vacation.Above the town you can see parish church dedicated to the birth of Blessed Virgin Mary. It was built in the period between 1696 and 1757.

Opposite to it there is a part of town called Kalvarija where you can walk along the Way of the Cross, also primary and secondary high school.

Along the main island road toward Veli Lošinj there is   town quarter called Malin where you can find family houses that offer private accommodation in bedrooms or apartments.

Zagazinjine is a with tourist agencies , a supermarket and restaurants. If you continue to walk forward you'll get to the saint Martin cove where the beginning of development actually started. Now, there is cemetery and Saint Martin's church which dates from 14th-15th century.

On the way out of the town there's quarter Prevlaka, and across the bridge quarter Poljane and camp which has the same name.
