On the crossing between the islands Lošinj and Cres is Osor, the oldest town on the island. It is a small town today, a town museum which has many cultural historical monuments. It used to be a big town with forum theater, monuments, interesting buildings and about ten thousand inhabitants. Today Osor is a pleasant and quiet tourist place.
From the channel above which the movable bridge is going you can see the pine-forest and a beach. There is a camp in Osor. You can find private accommodation, a store, post-office and a few restaurants. These are the basics of the towns development today ( it use to be a big center on the way between the east and the north Adriatic).
In the center you can see many sacral monuments and the Cathedral of Mary's Assumption which celebrated its 500th anniversary 1998.
If you decide to visit it You'll find altars and paintings from 16th and 18th century and in the cathedrals treasury, golden and silver liturgical set that dates form 14th and 18th century. In Cathedral you can enjoy in Osor musical evenings if you visit it during the summer period. In short, a place you must see.
