Vrana

vrana2.jpg (25222 bytes)It's a small village in the cattle breeding area above the Vrana lake - natural phenomenon of the archipelago. What still makes it special is it's legend. It is thought that the ancient Romans had their military stronghold (lat. castrum) called Vrana. The lake and the village were named after it. The local church is dedicated to Saint Mary and was built in 1424 in gothic style.

There's a cemetery near next to it. The lake is a big reservoir of drinking water that is 5,5 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide. The level of drinking water is some above the sea level and there are many springs in the sea level on the west side along the coast. Those few meters keep the water drinkable because the water from the lake flows out through hill into sea. vrana3.jpg (17152 bytes)

If you ask people there will with pride tell you about the legend according to which the lake was created, there is also one that says whoever drinks the water will return to these islands, and you can drink it everywhere because of the towns water supply system. So , drink and become our regular visitors.
